We have an Alpha dual-slant omni on 2.4 GHz, and we're getting -62 dBm
at ~~ 2 miles, with SNR > 36 dBm. Will soon see if we can stretch that
to 2.75 miles. I think it will do well considering the locations.

Yeah, we’re only using them for a radius of less than 1 mile, and
usually with a CPE right at the repeater site, so the smaller antenna
with more downtilt seemed appropriate. I question whether that’s
really a 10 dBi antenna though, the range has been disappointing.

Why the Ubiquiti 10dbi instead of the 13dbi?

Yeah, yeah, yeah, but I’m not putting sectors at a legacy
repeater site in a tiny town with 6 subs which of course are
in all different directions. The site is currently 2.4 FSK
and an omni with 7 degrees downtilt, but the 2.4 interference
has become too bad.
I have been trying to use Rockets in U-NII-1 with the
Ubiquiti 10 dBi omni, but the range is really poor plus I’m
tired of waiting for the SOON firmware for the Beams. I also
see home routers now coming preset to use channels 36-48 by
default (which makes sense), so U-NII-1 may not stay quiet in
town.

Friends don't let friends use omnis ;)

Does anyone know if the KPP dual slant omni is an Alpha
AW3089 or a knockoff? And has anyone used either of them?
My experience with 5 GHz dual pol omnis has been
disappointing, I'm wondering if these bigger, more
expensive omnis deliver better performance.
11 dBi isn't much if you can lose 3-5 dB at certain
azimuths, another few dB depending on frequency, and
another 3 dB at zero elevation due to 4 degrees
electrical downtilt with an 8 degree beamwidth.
For $600+ and 6 inches diameter, I'd expect it to wash
and wax my car.
