Not sure if Gino used his Spanish to speak to Italians for better service
and stuff but my mum, sister and brothers have and it was great.. Also they
speak Spanish in France and get much better service, places to sit and
folks are friendlier...
My youngest brother is fluent in Italian, French and German , so it really
helps  paisanos!
