connectorizied. Ubiquiti in various flavors. Antenna’s and power supplies for
all of the above. Non-Pen mounts, regular mounts, roof mounts, power supplies
for all of the above. Concrete and poles. Concrete blocks for non-pen mount.
Power auger, post hole digger, indoor and outdoor wire and cable, tools, indoor
supplies (wall plates, punchdowns, etc). We would have to tow a trailer to
carry all of that with that van - or spend hours a day digging through the
gigantic mess in the back of the van.
One trip and done.

For what you pay for a new van, you can by 3 fully equipped vans with

Lease is a straight expense on the books and you get new equipment every
few years - but there are significant upfit costs that you lose each time you
exchange the van. Sure they can be built into the lease - but your still
paying for it.
If you buy you would normally depreciate but IRS Section 179 lets you
expense the entire thing if you want to. Sometimes that just means you are
kicking the tax can down the road.
I usually finance them over 48 months and figure approximately 40k with
upfit. The last couple have been closer to 45k all in. The oldest ones (the
Sprinters) are about 7 years old now and were expensed and paid for long ago.
Anything we get out of them now is just a bonus. I prefer newer equipment for
the trucks as it’s a significant expense and hassle when one breaks down and we
have to reschedule work and/or have someone sitting around without a vehicle.
The PR value of having decent looking equipment with good graphics and the
ability to carry all of the assorted equipment to do the job in one truck roll
is worth the extra expense.

Transit - good van, only thing I don’t like is the weird masking on the
windshield for the (nonexistent) rear view mirror.
Nissan has been very reliable but loses a lot of storage area to the
‘truck’ front end.
Promasters are roomier than the Ford. So far so good - but they are
all pretty new.
Sprinter - were nice to drive when new, not so much now. Reliability
has been poor, maintenance extremely expensive, and not even the Mercedes
dealer can figure out how to fix them when they break. I don’t believe we
will ever buy another Sprinter.

Basically that, but the ones I'm familiar with the pole
is always connected, and once the ladder is in place the pole folds against the

Good ladder kits mount the ladders on top. There is a
level that pulls the ladder down to the side of the vehicle, then you just pull
it off the hangers. They also have locks.

We like the dual sliding doors. We install shelving
on the driver side door entry way for easy access to tools. The Transit
connects are decent. The full size transits are too large for us - mileage is
too big of a hit. I’m sure they will last longer but by the time they are 5 or
6 years old the wrap is tired and it’s worth nothing, new stuff is out, might
as well just plan on a 4 year replacement cycle and have something that always
works. We’ve had some issues with the older transit connects as they get into
the 100k mileage range. Our new vans are Promaster Cities. They get better
mileage than our Transit Connects and are hopefully a little tougher. There
are some great incentives on the Ram Promaster City vans right now.
