For anyone who has never worked with IMC, compared to rigid conduit it is lighter, stronger, has more interior space, and costs less. It is however more difficult to hand bend and in some areas may be harder to find. Rigid conduit is extruded, IMC is formed out of sheet stock and welded, the forming process work-hardens the steel making it stiffer. IMC is also useful for antenna mast. Aluminum conduit is much more flexible than either rigid or IMC and not so good as antenna mast.
Pretty much any electrical supply company will carry IMC, rigid, EMT, PVC, possibly aluminum, whatever is allowed under local codes. Hardware stores and home stores tend not to carry IMC, although I know of one Ace HW that stocks it rather than rigid conduit. Lowe's didn't have any goose necks or anything so I'm thinking I'll run the conduit up (so the opening is facing earth) and then do a 180* down the silo and into the shack/our NEMA box.
