A key feature of the onion I described was to delineate what various people/entities control, and what controls them.
Then, applying high intelligence, there is some limited ability to reach into the next outer layer of the onion. To illustrate, two of my three kids had grabs for exclusive custody by mothers, CPS, etc. These grabs were easily rebuffed by my kids, whom I had trained/educated on how to seize control as needed - in effect reaching a tiny bit into the next layer out in the onion. Of course there are other more egocentric onions, but I don't (yet?) see their value, especially in separating the mutable from the immutable. The one obvious historical example of someone taking limited control of all but the outermost layer(s) is Mohammad, who effected change by proposing a better culture (unless you believe that this really came from God via Gabriel). Now, our present limitations seem to be more cultural than technological, so yet another new cultural revolution might be the best way forward, rather than waiting for some future AGI to tell you this same thing.
