Thanks for the heads up on that story.  I find it rather difficult to
believe the hippocampus is limited to just _visual_ sequence recognition.
Prediction is so central to learning hence fitness that it hardly matters
what senses sequence information is arriving from -- you're always doing
"multi-source data fusion" eventually and may as well use a shared brain
structure to get it right via some sort of hash/encoding of a particular
conjunction of sense data.

Also, this would tend to point to the hippocampus as playing a defining
role in movement, would it not?  I mean you need to produce particular
sequences of coordinated muscle contractions to accomplish particular
goals, and these would be the inverse "hashes/codes" of the sensory inputs
from those parts of the body.
