I find it unlikely that the first computer programs which are capable of
general intelligence will act like an entity or a person, unless it is
specifically programmed to do so.  I don't think such behaviors are
necessary for strong AI, and therefore I don't assume that they need to be
present in any program that exhibits any form of intelligent behavior.
Many others may disagree with me of course.

And I don't think Reddit is AGI, but it does exhibit powerful mechanics
that we would normally not think computer programs to be capable of.  Think
about it this way.  If votes in an election were weighted based on an
algorithm, are the people still voting?  Or is the computer itself choosing
the winner of the election?  Where do you draw the line between the two?
Strong AI will not be isolated to black-box computations.  It will derive
many of its decisions from human input, and it may be capable of showing
strong behaviors in ways we wouldn't expect.
