Subject: Re: [agi] Ubuntu support versus Linux support.
If someone that has opencog build would just push it into a vm image
or a juju charm (ubuntu) or whatever that would save a lot of
hassle. Especially if it was one of the common image types so it
could be loaded on most any linux and in most any cloud. So can
someone maybe fix up its build script to automatically produce one
of those if they haven't already?

Yeah... following the build instructions for
OpenCog on Ubuntu works fairly robustly. On other Linux
versions it may require some fiddling. If you really care
you can install an Ubuntu VM, right?
But this sort of thing is pretty common among open
source Linux software, it's not really to do with specific
novel OpenCog code but rather with various external
dependencies that the code has, because of relying on various
existing code libraries...
About nested realities, ContextLink and
HypotheticalLink would be the mechanisms used in PLN semantics
for this sort of representation.... The current PLN
implementation does not support these robustly yet, but the
logic is worked out on paper...

probably the wrong list to rant about
OpenCog, unless you were edited off the OC group like my
rants usually are :) Anyway, they could start with better
Ubuntu support, right now it is a bit random building and
running the stuff, depending on which minor version of a
package or another you have. I can't see the purpose of
building general intelligence with gcc version 3.5.2.4
*only*, just like I don't see why general intelligence
should be build with "advanced" use of a bewildering mix
of software tools. I am all for integration across
toolkits and systems but they should be at least
half-understandable and half portable.
Meanwhile, it would help me immensely if someone
could explain how nested realities are represented in
OpenCog, for example me talking about Harry Potter's
first encounter with magical/invisible train platforms.
Disclaimer: I have long ago asserted that it is such
spontaneous hierarchies of thought, speech and reality
that lie at the core of our cognitive abilities, and we
enter such minute and uncharted regions of problem space
that break purely statistical tools.

The thing really seemed to hump Ubuntu and
seemed to be much more
intimate with the system as a whole than any
piece of software should be.
If you honestly want to support linux, just be
compatible with the
goddamned standard!

and adhere to all conventions with respect to
package design and best
practices!!! =|
