Yeah, I can see API being a problem, but I think it would depends on what you're trying to do. For AGI training, I assume some kind of mods capability plus video recording should be enough?

Not sure about the game itself, I always thought a 3D shooter in a more modern setting, with good physics engine, would the best choice.

Yes and no...

They've created some impressive technology,

However, it isn't useful until I can find some way to API into it and
hook up your AGI code. There may be a way to do this with obscure X11
calls but I haven't figured it out yet. =\
