Pete: Er.. I can see it now: an AGI that was designed for weather modeling
devolving into a lazy teenager ;)
Can't resist. It sounds like you think you are being funny/not serious. But if your AGI is not capable of being lazy and a slacker, inhibited/shy, a compromiser and a defeatist, like humans and animals, it won't be a successful AGI. That's because it won't be dealing with fundamentally problematic activities and assessing them on the basis of radically uncertain rewards, risks and costs - as humans do. When you do that, as humans do, you are inclined to compromise and give up a lot. It's not "worth all that effort", is it? "Why kill yourself?" "You don't want to overdo it, do you?" Do you "really want to do the work, anyway?" Chill in front of the TV man and the rewards may be v. low but so are the risks and costs. That's how an AGI must think and sometimes act.
