Performance aside, the only time I've ever had to bother with plug indexing is on my big valve head Spider, where I have to orient the single electrode plugs fore/aft to keep them from being hit by the valves.
Ken, your story is an interesting one, I doubt you could find two people who would agree on the best way to orient plugs, and I wouldn't want to put a lot of effort into orienting them one way just to find out years later that the best orientation was 180 degrees off.. bs -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of KStevenson Sent: Monday, July 12, 2010 7:34 AM To: [email protected]; [email protected] Subject: [alfa] Re: Spark plug indexing washers, how thick? My original understanding of indexing was based upon consistently pointing the gap toward the intake valve. I think I tried it once with trial and error on enough plugs to find a set that lined up the same. Years later, I took a private tour of Warren Johnson's pro stock racing trailer with their main sponsor. I got into a plug indexing discussion. The WJ indexing method was to point the gap away from the intake valve. The objective was to minimize the chance of debris finding its way into the plug gap.
