I jumped the 30 and 87 contacts in the drive relay socket and the
pump spun right up. So my new drive relay (a KAE 3.304.500 replacement)
arrived Friday and Monday is my first day off to try it.

I have read reports that the KAE replacement does not always work correctly. And that sometimes it will allow the fuel pump to run with the ignition on but the engine not running. This is a safety hazard - the Bosch relay (called the drive relay) only powers on the fuel pumps when the engine is running* (via a tachymetric signal from the coil). This also replaces the function of the 'inertia shut off switch' in prior models that would shut off the pumps in the event of an accident or stall.

*there is also a bypass circuit that powers on the fuel pumps during cranking. This is to ensure there is a fuel supplied before the engine starts and the expected tachymetric signal is sent to the drive relay.

The L-jet Spider has two flywheel sensors - one for speed (rpm) and one for position (timing). If one (or both) should fail the engine will not run.

There is a page of DIY things one can do (including how to test the flywheel sensors) to trouble shoot our L-jet Spiders here:
