The reasons for the problem are more tricky than the summery shows.
I was not able to reproduce the problem with an own new spreadsheet.
The problem was not visible for cell contents copied to my own spreadsheet as
"unformatted text"
The problem appeared as reported for cell contend copied with all formatting
information to my own test document.
Also font type changes do not work for content after '(' in 'BUG.ods'
I deleted the brackets in 'B2' and tried to change font size - problem was still
visible.
@daveqb
Can you please create a more simple sample document containing only one cell
with text between brackets and without any ohter formatting frills?
