Oh,well, this is an example how _writing_ a bug-report solves a problem. But, as
I missed this functionality for some time now, I just put the question if this
behavior is intentional.

If you want the double-click-hold selection behavior (selecting whole words),
when _adding_ to a selection, you have to release the add-to-selection button
(STRG).
Playing around with it, i realize that it takes a bit getting used to it,
especially when you have several multi-word parts, and I see no benefit, yet.
... Yet.
If this is of interest, holding STRG does not block this behaviour in other
apps, like konsole.
