@es
First, I spent quite a bit of time working up a test case that reliably triggers
the bug on my system.

I reported this issue to Rene via Debian's bugtracker. Rene scolds me for not
reporting it upstream instead, but at least forwards the bug with only a few
errors in the upstream bug report.

I go through the effort of signing up on OOo's bug tracker and add more
information to ensure it's correct.

The first time you read the bug, you misread it and simply close it out. I open
a new one, and go through the trouble of uninstalling my OOo and installing the
one from openoffice.org to retest it again. Unfortunately, the one from
openoffice.org is so buggy it is *completely* unusable.

(Note here the irony of how I have a bug in my Debian version, but am supposed
to report upstream, but upstream won't accept bug reports on the Debian version.
Reading this Rene? Not that it is necessarily limited to Debian, but
seriously...)

Sure, my tests under your unusable version (the *single* time I could get the
file to open) don't appear to trigger my original bug. I don't exactly trust
these results though. Instead of looking into either issue, you simply close my
second bug.

(Sure I could go through the trouble of debugging the second issue in the
upstream version, but this gets me no closer to my goal. I will not run the
upstream version on a day-to-day basis because it is clearly bloated with gobs
third-party packages that shouldn't be included.)

How much effort do you expect users to go through to report bugs? How many
users never even bother to start this god awful process? How many give up after
the first two steps?

I'm willing to test various scenarios with upstream or Debian maintainers,
really I am, but someone needs to take ownership of this product and work *with*
users to *resolve* bugs.
