Fill a cell with string that contains a typical superscripted component, such as
a date e.g. :
Friday 26th March

The "th" gets automatically superscripted.

Now select the cell and change the text color to a different color.

You will see that only the part before the superscripted text is colored.

Workaround : you can get around this by coloring within the text, i.e. by
editing the text entry and coloring it, rather than coloring the whole cell.
However this results in further problems as the coloring is then not able to be
changed for the whole cell, even when the in-text coloring is removed.
