to response to alex walker, for me the important is to see what
happen in /var/log/messages. I always have one terminal with
this command: tail -f /var/log/messages.

so, with alsa-drive090.beta11, that is now better (for me )to
install one AC97 in a via super south (see below for details).
and RedHat 7.2 with updated kernel-2.4.9-17, with the old one,
I have kernel memory dumps that crash my computer, often of
times!
after swap the location of System.map to /boot in make install,
and configure /etc/modules.conf ( that i like to have a little
more information, I just try without know what I am doing and
what options are valid etc.), I just copy what is write in the
end of INSTALL file.

and I see in my new laptop this:
Feb 22 00:33:02 localhost kernel: PCI: Found IRQ 11 for device
00:07.5
Feb 22 00:33:02 localhost kernel: IRQ routing conflict for
00:07.5, have irq
5, want irq 11
Feb 22 00:33:02 localhost kernel: PCI: Sharing IRQ 11 with
00:0a.0
Feb 22 00:33:02 localhost kernel: PCI: Sharing IRQ 11 with
00:0b.0

so what I think this problem is one problem or of the kernel or
of the bios because, even without install alsa-drive the same
error is given to me in boot of the laptop.

other thing that I thing is important is the configuration of
the hardware that you can see with lspci -v
and the result is:
