Interesting...
I have a similar wierd issue. I happen to have an AMD 1Ghz with the AC97/Via686 and a RealTek NIC. My machine also wants very much to share IRQ 11 with the Via686. ( so much so that I cannot change this ) I do not have any problems other than Recording is not good with most applications. I fiddled a lot with my BIOS and software settings... spent a week or so, couple hours a day, first time I set up Alsa 0.9b. ( Couldn't find good docs on /etc/modules.conf ) Kernel 2.4.17 was what I did this with last. I have not retrofitted 2.4.18-pre6 to work with alsa yet, but that's what I'm running now. They made some changes to RealTek drivers. When I get a chance, I'll try 2.4.18 after rc1, rc2, etc., What kind of Laptop do you have ? I just got a Compaq 1.2Ghz AMD4, and I have not yet installed Linux on it. Unfortunately, Windows XP is ( cringe ) rather stable and fun to use on my laptop and I'm not ready to do battle to bring up Linux the way I want. BUT ! I *WILL* put linux on it as soon as I'm a bit more comfortable making sure I can make the DVD, CD/RW work, and Sound. If you've done this already and have some info that would help me out greatly... ? -AEF On Friday 22 February 2002 16:29, Sérgio Monteiro Basto wrote: > to response to alex walker, for me the important is to see what > happen in /var/log/messages.
