yes, it's ok. just check whether sub1 directory appears. OTOH, in the case of other values (1,3,4), from sub0 to sub3 directories must appear there. if the above check is ok, then the problem is unlikely in the via82xx driver part but in ac97 codec configuration. please show the contents of /proc/asound/card0/codec97#0/* files.
