That's a good observation keith, i have nothing in modprobe.conf, and that's a problem with 2.6.3 :] i didnt even think about it, i just used modules.conf without a second thought :(
Anyways, i added all the lines from the howto for this module on alsa-project (http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/doc-php/template.php?company=Cirrus+Logic&card=CS4237B&chip=CS4237B&module=cs4236) and gave it a reboot and the module loaded as well as all the other modules: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# lsmod Module Size Used by snd_pcm_oss 48100 1 snd_mixer_oss 16544 1 snd_pcm_oss snd_cs4236 15428 1 snd_opl3_lib 9120 1 snd_cs4236 snd_hwdep 7488 1 snd_opl3_lib snd_cs4236_lib 15296 1 snd_cs4236 snd_mpu401_uart 6336 1 snd_cs4236 snd_rawmidi 21056 1 snd_mpu401_uart snd_seq_device 6596 2 snd_opl3_lib,snd_rawmidi snd_cs4231_lib 23808 2 snd_cs4236,snd_cs4236_lib snd_pcm 88096 3 snd_pcm_oss,snd_cs4236_lib,snd_cs4231_lib snd_timer 23136 3 snd_opl3_lib,snd_cs4231_lib,snd_pcm snd 47908 12 snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_cs4236,snd_opl3_lib,snd_hwdep,snd_cs4236_lib,snd_mpu401_uart,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq_device,snd_cs4231_lib,snd_pcm,snd_timer soundcore 7456 2 snd snd_page_alloc 9252 2 snd_cs4231_lib,snd_pcm ac 3532 0 fan 3116 0 processor 11472 0 battery 8012 0 prism54 45504 0 So i've used alsamixer to set the volumes (unmuted a bunch) but when I go to use Xmms to play an mp3, as soon as i hit the play button, it freezes (and a CNTRL+C from the terminal which i launched it from is required to close it). I have the alsa plugin for xmms ready to go, and ive messed around with the device it should use to play, from 'default' to the CS4236 (which is listed) to /dev/dsp{0-3}. no errors like "Your soundcard is not configured properly or you are using the wrong output plugin". I've also tried with the OSS output plugin, and it just sits at 0:00 (but it doesnt freeze). Very weird. Any idea's? Thanks for tip Keith! YOU ROCK! :] So close now!!!!!!! -smthmlk On Thu, 2004-03-04 at 14:18, Keith Duthie wrote: > You should be able to find the port information in the control panel on > windows (I'd be more specific, but I haven't run windows for years). > > Hmm.
