Ahh yes, I was using oss emulation to test I assumed that would be ok.
I was actually using XMMS. I hunted down a wav file for aplay.
Output of aplay -l attached. (aplay.log) and /proc/asound/cards (pacards.log)
BTW I am using the tools from 1.0.4 I assume thats ok.

I actually had to use plughw:2 as I have another device (I think a modem)
Actually -D plughw:1 plays on the internal sound card. (expected)
With plughw:2 it seems to wait the required amount of time and then return to
the shell but no output. I also tried that same command with the UA700 and it
played fine on the UA700. (I unplugged and replugged)
