Hi,

I'm trying to setup an Amanda 2.4.2p2 client with gtar 1.12 on a Solaris
2.6 Sparcstation and am getting a permission error for the tar list
file. The server is Solaris
2.8, also gtar 1.12. The server seems to back itself up without
problem. Also, the client (Medusa) and server (Stheno) are both part of a
NIS+ cluster.

The Amanda email report gives the following error

FAILURE AND STRANGE DUMP SUMMARY:
  medusa /var/tmp/pam lev 0 FAILED [/usr/local/bin/gtar returned 2]

FAILED AND STRANGE DUMP DETAILS:

/-- medusa /var/tmp/pam lev 0 FAILED [/usr/local/bin/gtar returned 2]
sendbackup: start [medusa:/var/tmp/pam level 0]
sendbackup: info BACKUP=/usr/local/bin/gtar
sendbackup: info RECOVER_CMD=/usr/local/bin/gtar -f... -
sendbackup: info end
? gtar: Cannot open
/home/pam/amanda-2.4.2p2/var/amanda/gnutar-lists/medusa_var_tmp_pam_0.new:
Permission denied
? gtar: Cannot write to
/home/pam/amanda-2.4.2p2/var/amanda/gnutar-lists/medusa_var_tmp_pam_0.new:
Permission denied
| Total bytes written: 20480
? gtar: Error exit delayed from previous errors
sendbackup: error [/usr/local/bin/gtar returned 2]
\--------

Here's the tar list file that is created:

-rw------- 1 pam users 10 Jun 13 11:29
medusa_var_tmp_pam_0.new

User pam is the Amanda backup user. It's the same user that runs Amanda on
the server. When backup runs of the server, Stheno, the tar list files
have the
same permission, eg, -rw------- 1 pam users 157663 Jun 13
10:13 stheno_export_home__2

I don't get why tar on Medusa has a problem with permission, if tar on
Stheno doesn't?

The sendbackup.20010612092931.debug file on Medusa gives the following
error:

sendbackup-gnutar: doing level 0 dump as listed-incremental to

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Pam
