Just to ask, are you using dump? If you are, was dump installed when
compiled in Amanda on that client pc.

Is the amandahosts file owned by amanda?

and sometimes, hosts.allow tends to be a problem with certain
installations, becuase they rely on hosts to delegate which ports are open
to hosts.
