I posted a message regard the silence command about a week ago.

By AmIRC itself. The data are being sent to you, but AmIRC just
ignores it, that is why you can get a count of ignores when you type
/ignore
Silence is similar to ignore, but your IRC servers prevent sending the
data to you, which is useful if there is a number of people flooding
you since the data only reach as far as the IRC server, and not
passed onto you.
Silence usually prevents all messages except channel text and is
temporary, ie, it only lasts as long you are on that server, which is
both a pain and a good idea.
