Hi Steve, An Astatic D-104 is a very good crystal mike. You can also get Kobitone crystal mike cartridges from Mouser Electronics http://www.mouser.com
Check out the Kobitone 25LM024 cartridge (in stock, $4.17 in single-unit quantities), it has a wide peak around 3 KHz, which is right where you want it. The datasheet for this cartridge is available in pdf form from the Mouser site. The peak at 3 KHz, and the high output into high impedance tube grid circuits, are good reasons to use this kind of crystal mike. To really get the low end with a crystal mike, you need a grid resistor of at least 1 meg, and preferably 10 or 15 megs.
