Those who lust after a portable 40 meter AM radio might be interested in

I have no knowledge about them at all, it is more expensive but is also 
a complete kit with case, mic, etc.  You can download the manual if you 
wish from his website - Heathkit fans will notice a distinct 
resemblance.  It's quite a piece of work.

As is the transceiver, based on a quick look at the schematic, a lot of 
engineering went into the innovative design.   Maybe someone owns one 
and can provide some firsthand information on the HT-7.

A note on the DZ Kit webpage says an 80 meter version is "coming soon".
