http://www.tldp.org/FAQ/faqs/Wine-FAQ Adding the locales wasn't the only solution I had suggested. In the FAQ it is suggested to remove your font paths from xorg.conf , which you didn't do. I had also explicitly told you to remove them because some font might just be broken (and recreating the font cache wouldn't help), which you insisted on not doing. About aMSN's source: If it even crashes for the language chooser, my guess is that it narrows down things - look at lang.tcl , I just did, code is OK.
