hello mailing list,

i'm new to analog. i've read the whole documentation, especially cache.html and the
page about coping with low memory. i have analog 5.1 running on server (celeron 2.0,
256M ram, 512M swap,60gb); for some reasons, i've no chance to update analog to the
newest versions in these days. about 70 domains and the respective homepages reside on
the server, but only one consumes "much" traffic...about 30gb / month. the
apache-access_log is about 60M today, there are also rotated access_logs, called
access_log.1, access_log.2, access_log.3 and access_log.4. they are aobout 140M. ensim
is running as an admin tool. analog is executed for every virtualhost by a script
(00updatestats.pl) every night through cron.daily. all sites are okay, except the "big
one".

if i open a secure shell and run top while analog is running for the big site, i
notice, that analog fills out the whole memory, then the whole swap. finally, the
kernel kills some processes like httpd, pro_ftpd, sshd... the normal procedure if
there is no memory left!!! the cache file for the site is about 350M. if i ran analog
without using this cache, everything is fine, but i have only the stats for one week
(the current access_log). what can i do to get the whole stats?

i have to admit that i didn't understand everything in the docu.

some basic questions:
1) if i want to have the stats for all the months, i have to use the cache file,
correct?
2) can i split the cache file in several ones? so that analog doesn't have to read in
all the 350MB.

i have put HOSTLOWMEM 3 to the config-file. but there is no change. the *LOWMEM
commands are only usable for reports, not for the cache file, correct?

thanks in advance for all your answers,
and sorry for my bad english
