Indeed, free mugs and t-shirts won't do anything for promoting Android
development. However, a lot of us are private developers on
shoestring budgets and the donation of an Android device for proper
non-emulator testing would actually go a long way to help us do
exactly what Google wants, develop for the platform. Since I first
heard about the ADC I privately felt strongly that they should
consider a consolation prize of an Android device for just this
reason. But I never suggested it because I also feel that the ADC is,
as such competitions go, pretty generous. Generally I'm against
competitions because I feel it's just a way for a company to get cheap
labor from talented folks. But, obviously, from my participation, I
felt that the ADC was different and that it was time well spent.

So, in my case, should I lose, an Android device consolation prize
would most certainly increase my chances of developing for the
platform in the future. But I don't think any of us should expect
more than what was offered (not that anyone is doing so here).
