Good question. Should I continue developing my Android application even If its not in top 50?
Unfortunately there's no one who can answer it for you, except yourself. If you feel its worth it, keep at it. If not, then look for other viable alternatives. Twitter is such a great example. If you go around pitching Twitter, people would laugh at you. But if you build it, they can't get enough of it. Its like making a movie. Will it be a blockbuster? No one has and idea. But people take some risk and do it anyways, hoping it would work wonders at box office. Some click, some fail. That's life.
