I am not a lawyer, but in case you are, and you are sueing other people on grounds of *The Digital Millennium Copyright Act* (DMCA), then I would strongly implore that you shouldn't root the G1 on grounds of hypocrisy.
According to Wikipedia: DMCA is a United States <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States> copyright <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyright> law<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law>that [...] also criminalizes the act of circumventing an access control, whether or not there is actual infringement of copyright itself. Because G1 has some sort of (very weak) DRM to control paid apps, and root can allow you to copy paid apps, all you guys rooting G1s should get ready for some jail time. Cops are coming real soon now.
