I'm becoming concerned at the stability of the Cupcake update for the G1. Let
me give you today's experiences

First off it looks like widgets can cause the Home screen to go ANR. Twice this
morning I unlocked my G1 from a sleep only to be told "Activity Home (in
process android.process.acore) is not responding. Last night I updated the
Retro-clock widget and my main home screen contains 8 shortcuts, the Google
search bar, the retro-clock and retro-calendar (both from the retro clock app),
which is the only change I've made for a few days. This isn't a low memory
problem because the settings screen is reporting 44MB of free storage on the
'phone.

So, my next step, was to get the logs off the G1 and try to install Astro File
Manager to get the ANR traces, and, guess what, I'm now looking at a Market
screen that says "Starting Download..." with the progress bar empty and nothing
happening (JBQ there is no icon or message in the notification tray so I think
you're safe :)). This is reproducible because I can cancel the download and
restart it and the same thing happens.

This isn't customised firmware, this is the stock T-Mobile UK firmware which
has gone out to the 100,000 G1s they've shipped.

This is what consumers are experiencing.

This is what how Android will be seen by the public.

To me, This is very worrying.

Al.

P.S. Yes, I can hear many people saying "This might just be a thing with the
T-Mobile UK build", but at the moment that's what's on a majority of Android
devices in the UK, and so it's what's being shown to others.
