I did this for some mobile software I sell. Used PayPal buttons. Not a bad
way to go. once you register with paypal you establish an account, you can
then handle the pre and post web processing via your web site. The middle
part of the transaction goes via paypal.which accepts any credit card or
other type of paypal currency.

Paypal takes like 3 or 5 per cent, not the insane 33 to 70 per cent like
some of those mobile sites. Of course you lose the exposure but then you
reap a great percentage.

If your sale is reversed there is no charge [last time I checked]

Paypal also provides some code samples to do this in classic ASP or ASP.NET
models [C#/VB] You can tweek these with perhaps a two week effort at worse.
You can also link your paypal account to a bank account.

Paypal also has no charge for you setting all of this up. [unless you go to
a hi volume commercial account with more f(x)]

I have been picking up Android and may eventually sell an app or two via
this method. Unlocked devices and the freedom to install any app is a great
way to promote an OS and applications. Unfortunately telcos/service
providers like the "appstore" concept and the locked device methodolgy. They
would lock up your laptop and take a cut of all software sales if they could
get away with it.

Android looks like the best functional mobile OS I have seen. All the
others [currently] with the exception of WinCE/Mobile lack the breadth,
depth, robustness, process/thread support. I see these two as being great
contenders as unlocked open development platforms.

you can see a sample of how paypal buttons work from my web site @

Subject: [android-discuss] Alternative way of dealing with 10% payment
declined messages ...

... so Google don't look like they are going to allow charging in
local currency soon, so meanwhile rather than lose 10% payment
declined because I charge in £'s, not $'s, I am thinking of something
like this ...

Send automatic message to payment declined users indicating they can
buy the apk using PayPal log in. This apl will be downloaded from my
website and will send them an apk and an authorisation code which they
need to activate the app. This auth code could be linked to a phone or
an e-mail address.

Has anyone built / seen anything like this?

Seems a lot of trouble, so I can't decide if its worth building this
or not ...
