I believe the report spam button actually works. I've used it on several occasions when the comment was actual spam and the offending entry disappeared after a day or so. Not just from my view but from everywhere. It could be that if several people report a comment as spam, it actually get reviewed by a program or human and is dealt with. On the other hand, it might have been removed by another mechanism.
