I'd say it is a potential PR nightmare if you are a company that cares
about PR. If you are an independent developer that doesn't care about that,
maybe it doesn't matter. But it only takes one user to get banned, find
this tread, and begin making horribly one-sided forum posts that send users
scurrying to the market to leave crummy reviews about the "sneaky dishonest
shameful scumbag developer".

Really? I just do not get that. They download it, it becomes theirs. I am
sure there is legal language somewhere that says that. They may not have
legal rights to upgrades, and not john's server, but the app, I think
so. The best way to avoid trouble would be to have an eula indicating the
development team reserves the right to discontinue service at their
discretion. And it would need to be something like blocking access to a
server. You can't just go locking down a program at your whim without
leaving yourself exposed.

Believe me, I get the feeling, and agree completely with the sentiment
put in the OP about how satisfying it would be.

You can with a license agreement. Maybe even something already in the
market agreement?

Nah, just the perfect incentive to convince the sort of people who were
complaining to go get their pitchfork and cause problems. -just my
opinion, of course...
