TO UNPACK:
        $ mkdir open_ram
        $ cd open_ram
        $ gunzip -c ../your-ramdisk-file | cpio -i

PACK it again:
        $ cd <open_ram>
        $ find . | cpio -o -H newc | gzip > ../newramdisk.cpio.gz
