        Well I have two opinions here:

1. Common user in me (and also mass evangelist) tells that it's too
geeky.
2. My *personal* opinion likes it however (my *personal* opinion also
hates any splashscreens, just to show how personal it is).

        Either way, something more merry/catchy would be helpful,
IMHO.

        There was quite a bunch of effort. Did you have a chance to
look at mockups which were present at older angsrom-distribution.org
site? If no, you lost too much - all those cheap 3d-like gilt effects
users are mesmerized with (iphone suck comparing with it, trust me ;-D).
I really regret sources for those mockups weren't made public for
someone to finish/fit them into actual images...

        Also, this is of course not first time when someone comes out
with "hey, I made something, feel free to use". The problem, the folks
are not long enough around/not pushy enough to get their stuff thru.
So, I encourage you to keep nagging maintainers for resolution of this
matter ;-).
