You said you won't elaborate, but you may have had the same problems
others have.  I had to set up the network, and then make an init script
that would modprobe hx4700_acx and modprobe acx when the device boots or
wakes up from sleep.  Rebooting after the first time setup also seemed
to be required, although it seems as if there should be a way to create
the same state without rebooting.  This is Linux, after all :)

network-manager does lots of different things for you, but if you just
want a GUI to set up the wireless network, Settings -> Network Setup
should do the trick.
