Hello Nicolas! I sent a personal letter but you did not reply. As you follow this list better than the personal mail I repeat the message here:
I tried to build the kernel 2.6.30 and boot it onto 9263-EK. All instructions and patches are from Linux4SAM, defconfig also.. So, the only I can see is: Starting kernel ... Uncompressing Linux......................... .................................... ........................................... done, booting the kernel. Linux version 2.6.30 (maxx@ubuntu) (gcc version 4.2.1 (CodeSourcery Sourcery G++ Lite 2007q3-53)) #1 Fri Jan 21 06:42:13 PST 2011 CPU: ARM926EJ-S [41069265] revision 5 (ARMv5TEJ), cr=00053177 CPU: VIVT data cache, VIVT instruction cache Machine: Atmel AT91SAM9263-EK Memory policy: ECC disabled, Data cache writeback Clocks: CPU 204 MHz, master 102 MHz, main 16.367 MHz Built 1 zonelists in Zone order, mobility grouping on. I tried to boot the prebuild image ftp://www.at91.com/pub/linux/2.6.30-at91/linux-2.6.30-at91-exp.3-at91sam9263ek.binand it worked perfect. Can you explain what is wrong? I use: 1) CodeSourcery compiler arm2007q1 2) ftp://www.at91.com/pub/linux/2.6.30-at91/at91sam9263ek_defconfig 3) http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/linux-2.6.30.tar.bz2 4) http://maxim.org.za/AT91RM9200/2.6/2.6.30-at91.patch.gz 5) ftp://www.at91.com/pub/linux/2.6.30-at91/2.6.30-at91-exp.4.tar.gz I doubt that the compiler version is fresh enough. Do you? P.S. I don't care what is old and what is fresh! I have a system with at91sam9263 and what a kernel for it. To Grégoire: if you can help with a piece of advice - do it. If not: don't pollute the mail-list. From all of you messages nobody can benefit anything. If nobody noticed: the initial message was about Narcissus builder and I guess Koen could write a few words about what was wrong with it for at91sam9263ek 2011/1/24 Grégoire de Turckheim <[email protected]> > Le 24/01/2011 10:52, Nicolas Ferre a écrit : > > Le 21/01/2011 22:16, Grégoire de Turckheim : >> >>> Maxim, >>> >>> if you think the 2.6.30 kernel on linux4sam is outdated and like brand >>> new shiny things, I suggest you build your own kernel with the toolchain >>> I mentioned below, this is the best way for you to have the latest >>> kernel. >>> >> You are right telling that 2.6.30 is outdated *but* this revision has >> been intensively tested and integrates patches that have not yet >> completed their mainline integration process (ISI for instance). >> >> However as you say, "nearly comprehensive" AT91SAM9263 support has been >> integrated in mainline Linux for a long time... >> >> > I said : in my opinion, 2.6.30 is not outdated, I agree with you Nicolas, > it has proved it's stability and I bet 95% of the usages don't need the most > recent features included in the kernel... > > > PS: don't tell anybody the at91sam9263 is at least 4 years old, the >>> ARM926 core is outdated, you should consider switching to an ARM Cortex >>> A8.
