Whatever the problem and how to fix it, let this be a lesson to all: In
this worldwide business we call the Internet, there is only one charset:
UTF-8.

It never ceases to amaze me that the major databases by default still go
for some retarded, limitted character set usably only for the locale of
the machine you are installing on. Never mind where your customers are and
their names might be Jörg Sørensson or your weather report includes
references to el niño.
