Greetings. I am a long-time Macintosh user and participant in various
lowend mac email lists. Now I am an absolute NEWBIE Apple II user as
I recently got an Apple IIGS system from work. I haven't had time to
take a close look yet (memory, etc.), but it has a SCSI card and a
42MB hard drive attached. It is running System 6.0.1. I tried to boot-
up (from the hard drive), but couldn't complete it as it returned a
$0201 error message as it was attempting to load a desk accessory
CDRemote. I looked this up on an online FAQ and found that it's a
"could not allocate memory" error. Apparently, the problem is not
with adequate physical memory, but a hang-up in allocation.
Unfortunately, the FAQ did not say how to fix the error condition.
Can anyone on the list help me?
The system also has a 3.5" floppy drive, but I haven't found a system
tools or start-up disk. There is a box of stuff with it, and I'm
hoping there is a disk there, since I suspect any fix you suggest may
involve trying to boot from the floppy and maybe re-installing system
software on the hard drive. But as I say, I'm totally new here!
Thanks!
Gary F Daught
