Press and hold the shift key while booting until the message "No Inits/DAs" is displayed. This will prevent all desk accessories from loading.
If this allows you to boot into the finder, you can disable the CDRemote desk accessory from loading if that's the problem. You may also want to check the control panel to see how much memory you have (press open-apple, control, esc at the same time). -Jeff -----Original Message----- From: Apple2list [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Gary F. Daught Sent: Wednesday, August 24, 2005 8:14 PM To: Apple2list Subject: Fixing an $0201 error? Greetings. I am a long-time Macintosh user and participant in various lowend mac email lists. Now I am an absolute NEWBIE Apple II user as I recently got an Apple IIGS system from work. I haven't had time to take a close look yet (memory, etc.), but it has a SCSI card and a 42MB hard drive attached. It is running System 6.0.1. I tried to boot- up (from the hard drive), but couldn't complete it as it returned a $0201 error message as it was attempting to load a desk accessory CDRemote. I looked this up on an online FAQ and found that it's a "could not allocate memory" error. Apparently, the problem is not with adequate physical memory, but a hang-up in allocation. Unfortunately, the FAQ did not say how to fix the error condition. Can anyone on the list help me? The system also has a 3.5" floppy drive, but I haven't found a system tools or start-up disk. There is a box of stuff with it, and I'm hoping there is a disk there, since I suspect any fix you suggest may involve trying to boot from the floppy and maybe re-installing system software on the hard drive. But as I say, I'm totally new here! Thanks!
