The one I am trying is version 2.18

All my experience so far with FASTFLIP is good, but I use it ONLY for
switching between up to three (3) applications: Arachne, Professional
Write (my favourite word processer), and AUSREG's Chemical Data package
that I wrote for my own business.

Switching between applications is as simple as Ctrl+1, Ctrl+2, Ctrl+3.
And it IS very quick on my rig: 486, 133 MHz, 32 MB RAM.
I did not find setting up a permanent menu either easy or useful. I
invoke it with FLIP.BAT and unload it with UNFLIP.BAT from the command
line. Of course, one has to close each application to the CLI and type
EXIT to close each open "channel", otherwise you can't unload FASTFLIP.

DOSSHELL is not something that I have actually used all that much. I
have now had a bit of a play with it, and I guess I will find features
that I can use. I do find it a bit slow compared to Dos Navigator, but I
guess it really comes down to the applications you are most familiar
with. :)

Haven't tried Arachne on-line under DOSSHELL, never seemed to be any
point when I can go on-line with Arachne straight from the CLI. And
shell out to DOS if I needed something else but wanted to keep the
connection alive.

Regards,
        Ron
