Hi Michael, > Okay, I think Ralph missed my point. I'm not proposing a Mac OS X only > fork,
I didn't think you were, it was an example of a similarly poor reason to fork arcem. > but rather a way of handling the difference between "pure" emulation > of the hardware and a version of ArcEm that uses module based shims to > cut through to functionality embedded in the emulator. All ports > should come from the same source tree as they currently do. I've no problem with the same tree of source being configured and built in different ways; it currently is. I don't see why an Ether1 emulation, for example, and a RO-specific DCI-4 module can't co-exist in the source tree, and in an emulated machine at the same time come to that. A fork *is not required* to handle this. > Not forking is fine, I'm just pointing out though that the active > developer base at the moment do not agree with Ralph's original > statement that we should stick to pure emulation of hardware. That was not my statement. I said "I'd prefer emulating a real network i/f podule". I was stating a preference on the subject of adding networking alone. A preference! And you've turned that into a statement that it should be a "pure emulation of hardware" implying no software hacks allowed in any area, not just networking. And I don't expect anyone to alter what they're doing because of my preference. I was just stating it and giving the reason. It may persuade, it may not. But I should be able to say it and have it carefully read before it generates all this noise, mine included. Cheers, Ralph. ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by xPML, a groundbreaking scripting language that extends applications into web and mobile media.
