... i'm guessing it's not "javascript based config files", but rather
a little thing known as JSON, which is hardly confined to JavaScript.

any JSON object is a valid Python dictionary, and it has natural
analogues in pretty much any language -- aka Hash Table.

aside: take a look at:

# ls -l /usr/share/gir-1.0/

... good things are making their way to a machine Near You.
