Hi,

Thanks so much for the response!

We do restart the Ariel workstation (the PC) every day. BUT it isn't the
workstation that is the problem.

We are running a split model where we have a server and a workstation. The
server is responsible for receiving documents (this model is described in the
detailed installation instructions).

I believe that the SERVER is the problem... it is basically that the SERVER APP
gets "stuck" (that's the technical term our IT person uses). This condition
seems to happen randomly. The SERVER is not rebooted automatically..

Anyone else have any ideas?

For us, we found that daily rebooting (turn off/on) of our Ariel workstation
has pretty much eliminated the Ariel "freeze". When we have a heavy volume day
our Ariel program will "freeze" and rebooting the Ariel workstation unlocks
everything and it functions as it should.
Hope this helps.

Subject: [ARIE-L] Ariel server "freezes"

Hello,

We're running 4.1.1 on a "server" (these days "server" may be a virtual machine
or some such thing) and it communicates with a PC in our ILL office. Since
July or so we've been having problems with the server "freezing" (this is how
our I.T. person describes it).

This is what he writes:

Basically, what I'm seeing is that it randomly "freezes" the application --
load is not high, memory usage is not high, there's nothing in the winariel.log
file. Connectivity to the database *appears* ok. I can connect to the console,
kill it and restart it without any errors or warnings. It's been happening
since about July or so.

Has anyone seen something similar to this? Or have any suggestions what we
might do? It is happening every few days during the "bad" times (other weeks
can go by without any problems).

Thanks.
