For anybody willing to understand what period films are
about should listen to compositions of Naushad
(Mughal-e-Azam) and Khayyam (umrao jaan) etc in which they
created the sounds of the era in film that film were based.

I repeat, Mughal-e-Azam songs would not have been out of place in any of the 1960's movies.

> And I don't think that a music score has to be

It makes a big bogey of ARR's claim that "hum hai.n is pal
yahaa.N" has the sounds prevalent in 1947. Listen to the
songs of Andaz, Anmol Ghadi, Barsat, Dulari, Badi Bahan,
Parwana, Shahjehan to know what type of sounds were
prevalent in 1947.

Anybody who is willing to give it a try for the heck of it,
please see the 1952 film Anandmath having the music by
Hemant Kumar. There is a song in it "vandemataram". Or just
listen to that song's audio.

I have grown up with this song. What is different in this from the other songs in that era, tell me?
If you compare it with ARR's todays music, you will see the difference and this is but to be expected. The recording techniques have improved tremendously over the years. I am not sure whether the same primitiveness can be recreated.
