We do not use a physical load balancer. In our case we use an alias for the MidTier server and DNS to perform load balancing. On our regional DNS servers, the MidTier alias points to a MidTier server in that region. We have two servers in EMEA, two in AP and two here in the US. In EMEA, we have one server that serves up data for users in GB and one in Germany that serves up data for the rest of EMEA. The way DNS is setup, each server is a failover for the other if one of the MidTier servers is down. In AP, it is a similar setup with a server in China serving up data for users in China and one in Japan serving up the rest of AP.

Do you use load balancer in front of the miditer servers? we are planning to setup the environment of miditer servers for each locations. Thanks a lot. Since we have helpdesks around the world we are accessing the same server using 6 different regional instances of 7.5 Patch 004 MidTier. I haven't heard of any ODBC issues. We have very minimal use of Crystal Reports and likely will be decommissioned in the near future. We are also upgrading our ARS to v7.5 including the user tool. The second phase of this upgrade will be to install mid-tier and replace the user tool. Keeping in mind we'd like to use Windows 7 64bit, is anyone successfully using v7.5 user tool AND v7.5 mid-tier (what should we call it) client? In that scenario any issues running Crystal Reports XI in either the user tool or mid-tier client? ODBC issues? I've read through the posts and there seems to be a variety of combinations being used and it was confusing to arrive at a definitive answer. The compatibility doc is not as clear as I'd like. This can cause some stability issues. What Jeff is describing is called Compatibility Mode and works for most applications. When installing the 7.5 WUT you need to go to "\Disk1\InstData\VM" and set the Compatibility Mode for "setup.exe" to Windows XP SP2, then you can run the "setup.cmd" file a couple directories up which sets your system path information and runs the installer with the proper arguments. Earlier versions are a little bit easier to install since you just need to set the compatibility mode on the EXE installer. BTW, WUT 7.5 patch 004 crashes whenever it tries to open a FlashBoard on my system, so I downgraded to patch 003. Sincerely, Robert Fults Remedy Admin/Dev. Nice to know.. Maybe that was what was wrong when I installed the Atrium Orchestrator Dev tool on my laptop. I'll uninstall it the next time I need to use it and install it in XP mode and see if it works..
