Dear Everyone, Back on 12/29/03 when I first seen a story on SSG Maurice Craft on Channel 12 News at 1130 at night I wasn't able to sleep that night. The next day I was at his Grandmas with a dozen donuts flowers offering any help in anyway.Thats the day I met his grandma Maddie Davis she show me 2 pictures of a young man with 2 different Presidents one while in was in 10 grade Ii Asbury Park High School winning a youth essay contest with President Clinton & the second with President Bush getting the Purple Heart after being wounded serving in our Armed Forces both pictures taken in Washington D.C.Not to many Grandmothers that raised their Grandson has a picture of them with 2 Presidents. My Commander in the American Legion 523 Ben Schiender & I presented her with a Blue Star Banner.Ben was also their on morning to shuffle some snow for his grandma at 7:00 a.m. during a snow storm we had last year at his Grandmother house she had it done already.Maddie Davis is one special person. When Maurice & I finally got to meet after talking on the phone & e-mailing each other back & fourth other for several months a tear ran down our eyes as the room got silent all his Cousins & Aunts was their talking with him.We shook hands & talk for awhile.Normally a person is forgotten about after serving their Country & being wounded. How do you say Thank You to what everyone did for him with this Benefit & others things in the Past..It gives me goose bumps just thinking about what you all have done as I write this. What you all have done & are doing you can't put a price on it a pretty good in helping him Heal to which he will have a Life Time of problems. He will always look back at what the people from Asbury Park, Musicians from areas that are pretty far from A/P & people in surrounding communities did for him.Windmill restaurant for all the food and what they are doing for our Veterans Marines in Red Bank. There are some people in Washington D.C. & Ft. Bragg N.C. home of the 82 Airborne that know about a town called Asbury Park not only for a town wear people became famous in Music but on how much people care about one of their Hometown Hero's.His 2 Daughters will look back at this I am sure as they get older in Life and say what you all are doing was very special for their Father. As a Veteran and as a person from the City of Asbury Park.I took a stand while a Commander in the VFW about a Flag Flying on our Waterway & finally got one up on one of the greatest Waterways in the United States it is because of people like yourselves that Flag should be flying on our Waterway not only for Veterans in a time of war.It is people like yourselves that make the Foundation of our Country by doing all things you due..Next time you see the Flag Flying on our Waterway or anywhere think of yourselves because you all make it what it is & stands for. THANK YOU AGAIN
