Hi Tommy, I am sorry that you had to go through this. Your final
statement is powerful and worthy of following.

I am happy to know that you were able to continue your walk without
further confrontation. I know how scary an experience like this can
be, I have been there; in my situation, the hand came out of the pocket
holding a gun which was rapidly placed at my temple. (This did not
happen in Asbury Park.)

It took everything I had in me to remain calm and talk to the person
with the gun. I was able to talk him into putting the gun away. I
spent the next year fearing my own shadow. Don't let that happen to
you, that is what they want - they want to keep you scared.

Allow this to be a learning experience that will better equip you in
the event that something else happens. Know that you have defenses; a
set of keys splayed through your fingers makes a great weapon when you
make a fist. I don't want you to ever have to need to defend yourself,
but know that you can.

I live in a very low crime area, but I have been a crime victim three
times - twice right here at my home. I have found the need to make
adjustments in my life for my own protection. I refuse to be scared
anymore and I refuse to move away from a town that three generations of
my family have called home.

You seem like a very proud person; keep it that way. If I was a
taxpayer in Asbury Park, I would give you a ride to the next Town Board
meeting to discuss solutions.

Be well,

Glenn
